Last night my buddy Collie and I decided to head downtown after dark to take some shots of downtown and the causeways leading to South Beach. I was a little nervous about going down there for a few reasons. Night photography can be very difficult. There are a lot of things to take into consideration: the various forms of ambient light, the possibility for shaky or blurry pictures and the crazy characters that tend to hang out after dark.

To calm my nerves I had to make sure I was properly prepared. I studied up on some tips for night photography. I made sure I had my tripod remote and some other accessories to help me out. And Collie is a former Marine that is at least two inches taller and 20 pounds heavier than myself. ‘Nuff said!

Overall, we had a great time. This was my first formal night shoot and I was pleased with the results. With the exception of minor tweaks for exposure, I did not alter the final appearance of the shots below. Ok that’s a lie. I added a little Photoshop magic to one of the shots. I thought the rest of the shots would be able to hold there own. No additives. No preservatives.
